Lorena Wiebes claimed victory in the fourth edition of the Gravel World Championships in Maastricht. In a thrilling finale, the sprinter closed the gap on Shirin van Anrooij in the final kilometre and ultimately outpaced defending champion Marianne Vos in a decisive sprint. Italy’s Silvia Persico completed the podium with a third-place finish.

The 131-kilometre race was dominated by Dutch riders. In the lead group, four Dutch cyclists worked together alongside Germany’s Romy Kasper, while another five Dutch competitors formed a chasing group not far behind.

With 20 kilometres to go, Vos and Wiebes launched an attack, pulling Persico along with them. Soon after, Van Anrooij, Yara Kastelijn, and the Czech rider Julia Kopecky bridged the gap to join the leaders. The closing stages were electrifying, marked by relentless attacks. Van Anrooij managed to break away and gain a 20-second lead, but her effort was neutralized in the final stretch. In the end, Wiebes powered through with an explosive sprint to secure a well-deserved victory.
